Fixing Eloqua sync errors
When a lead can't sync to Eloqua, it lands in Integrations → Eloqua → Reconciliation → Failed with an error code. This article covers what each code means and how to fix it.
Field / value validation
DATA_FORMAT_VALIDATION — Mobly sent a value that doesn't match the Eloqua field's type. Common cause: mapping a Mobly TEXT field to an Eloqua Numeric field, or mapping an EMAIL-badged Mobly field to a plain text field with email format validation.
Fix: on the Mapping tab, confirm the Mobly field's type badge (TEXT / EMAIL / URL / PHONE) matches the Eloqua field type. Either change the Eloqua field type in Eloqua, or remap Mobly to a field of the matching type.
NO_TAG_MAPPING — a Mobly qualifier value didn't have a corresponding option on the target Eloqua picklist. The lead's other data synced, but that qualifier value didn't land.
Fix: on the Qualifiers tab, add the missing value mapping — or add the missing option to the Eloqua picklist and re-map.
Auth / permissions
Authentication failed — the connecting Eloqua user's token expired, or the user's permissions in Eloqua were changed.
Fix: open Integrations → Eloqua → Connect and click Connect to re-authenticate. If the user is no longer valid in Eloqua, connect with a different user (ideally a service account).
Cannot create Contact / CDO record — Mobly's connecting user doesn't have Create permission on Eloqua Contacts or the Mobly CDO.
Fix: in Eloqua, grant the user Create + Edit access to Contacts and to the Mobly CDO.
Rate limits
Rate limit exceeded — Eloqua throttled Mobly's writes. Common during high-volume event days.
What Mobly does: retries with exponential backoff automatically. Most leads recover in a few minutes.
When to act: if leads sit in Failed for more than an hour, contact your CSM — sustained rate-limiting may need an Eloqua-side quota adjustment.
Mobly CDO missing fields
FIELD_NOT_FOUND on the Mobly CDO — a field that Mobly expects on the auto-created Mobly CDO isn't there. Usually because someone in Eloqua renamed or deleted a Mobly-created field.
Fix: in Eloqua, restore the field with its original name. Don't rename or delete Mobly-created fields on the Mobly CDO — Mobly relies on the exact field names it created.
What's not yet covered here
The categorized error list will grow as Eloqua reaches more customers. If you hit something that isn't listed:
Copy the exact error code from Reconciliation
Take a screenshot showing the lead and the error
Send both to your CSM — they'll add the pattern to the reference and get the fix into Mobly if it's a systemic issue
